Too often we allow society to give us a title and define who we are in life. We become motivated by who we think society wants us to become not who we internally want to be. I have never been
impressed with “titles.” I represent myself daily with how I want society to view me not how I am viewed by society.
As an example, when my beautiful husband lost his life to a Red Light Runner I was suddenly “defined.” I was a WIDOW, “Oh that poor young “WIDOW.” Now, if I believed in titles I would become that
poor thing that society would want me to be. But since I do not believe in titles I chose to be that lucky woman that was loved so deeply and so purely. That “woman” that was “left” with a love child that
would remind her daily of the love that she shared with her husband; that “Woman” that was lucky enough to find love in her life-time that few people rarely find.
When I see my name in print Melissa Wandall, Widow it makes me “shiver.” In my life I do not stand for that poor grief-stricken woman balled up in a corner! I had to redefine this title to make it work in my life:
W = WISE
I = INDEPENDENT
D = DEVOTED
O = OPTIMISTIC
W = WOMAN
Shiver no more! My title defines me as Positively Powerful! It is dangerous when people become recognized and live their life for their title. We begin to think we stand for so much more or less than we really are! We all need to get back to basics and stop feeling like we have to BE who society wants us to be! We have to embrace who we are and appreciate our God given talents. No one is going to judge us for who we truly are! We have to break our own judgmental barriers and accept who we are inside and who we want to portray to the world! When we do this we begin to discover our “niche” in life.
I have redefined my society given title to represent me; Melissa Wandall a Mom, Highway Safety Advocate and Philanthropist! Do you allow society to define you? Or do you define yourself?
